Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic is a first-person stealth horror game released on June 13, 2025, for PlayStation 5, PC, and other platforms. Set in the decaying halls of Murray’s Costume Manor, the game combines classic FNAF scares with new exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival mechanics. Players must uncover the secrets of the manor while evading a terrifying, adaptive animatronic known as The Mimic.

Story

You play as an agent sent by Fazbear Entertainment to retrieve a prototype animatronic from the abandoned workshop of reclusive inventor Edwin Murray. The manor is filled with clues, remnants of Murray’s experiments, and evidence of failed retrieval attempts. The Mimic, a prototype endoskeleton designed to adapt to any costume and copy behaviors, has evolved beyond its programming, becoming a deadly threat. As you explore, you uncover Murray’s research and the dark history behind The Mimic’s creation.

Gameplay

Exploration and Survival

  • Setting: Murray’s Costume Manor is a maze-like environment with hidden passages, environmental hazards, and secret rooms.
  • Stealth: The Mimic stalks you throughout the manor, able to disguise itself as different animatronics and adapt to your playstyle, making each encounter unpredictable.
  • Gadgets: You have limited-use tools such as motion detectors, signal disruptors, and light-based devices to distract or manipulate The Mimic.
  • Safe Zones: Rooms with Inventory terminals or behind Data Diver doors are considered safe, but you must manage resources carefully.

Puzzles and Progression

  • Puzzle Solving: Progression relies on decoding messages, rewiring circuits, and manipulating objects to unlock new areas and uncover the story.
  • Distractions: Items like speaker standees and wind-up mice can be used to lure The Mimic away from your path, allowing for tactical movement and escape.

The Mimic

  • Behavior: The Mimic is highly adaptive, learning from your actions and changing its tactics, making previously safe hiding spots or routes dangerous over time.
  • Disguises: It can wear any costume, meaning it may appear as different animatronics, increasing the challenge and unpredictability.

Endings

There are three main endings, each revealing different aspects of the story and FNAF lore:

  • Normal Ending: Complete your mission and escape, but face unexpected consequences from Fazbear Entertainment.
  • Bad Ending: Fail to retrieve the prototype or get caught by The Mimic, resulting in a grim fate for the protagonist.
  • Secret/True Ending: Collect all hidden tapes and solve the final puzzles to unlock deeper lore about Edwin Murray, The Mimic, and Fazbear Entertainment’s secrets.
